Privacy policy
In short: in local mode your voice and text never leave your computer. In hosted mode and through the API, audio goes to the company that runs the speech model, is turned into text and is not kept by Ormia. We store your email if you join the waitlist, and usage counts if you have an account. We don’t sell data, show ads or use cookies on this site.
Who we are
Ormia makes voice dictation software and an API. “Ormia”, “we” and “us” in this policy mean the operator of ormia.ai. For any privacy question or request, email privacy@ormia.ai.
What we collect
| When | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You join the waitlist | Your email address and which option you picked (the app, Pro, Teams or the API) | To invite you when your spot opens and send beta news |
| You use hosted mode or the API | Seconds of audio and number of requests per day, per account. API keys are stored only as a one-way hash | To apply your plan’s allowance and bill correctly |
| Any visit to ormia.ai | Our host, Vercel, processes your IP address and request details to serve the page and protect against abuse. We use them to limit sign-up and API abuse | Security and keeping the service running |
We do not store the audio you dictate or the text it becomes, in any mode. The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising trackers.
Your voice and text
- Local mode (the default): both models run on your computer. Audio and text stay there. Your recent dictation history is kept on your computer only, and you can clear it or turn it off in Settings.
- Your own server: audio and text go only to the server you configure.
- Hosted mode and the API: audio and text are sent over an encrypted connection through OpenRouter to the provider running the open-weight Qwen models, transcribed and cleaned up, and returned. Ormia does not keep them. The provider processes them under OpenRouter’s terms.
Who else handles data

| Supabase (United States) | Stores the waitlist, accounts and usage counts |
| OpenRouter and the model provider it routes to | Runs speech recognition and cleanup in hosted mode and for the API |
| Google Fonts | Serves the fonts on this site; your browser requests them from Google |
We share data with these services only so they can do these jobs. We never sell personal data.
How long we keep it
- Waitlist emails: until you ask us to remove yours, or 12 months after we stop inviting from the waitlist.
- Account and usage records: while your account is open, then as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the data we hold about you, or to stop emailing you, by writing to privacy@ormia.ai. Depending on where you live, including the EU, the UK and California, you may have further rights, such as data portability or the right to complain to your data protection authority. We will answer within 30 days.
Data we hold is stored in the United States. Where the law requires it, we rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards for transfers.
Children
Ormia is not meant for children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change what we collect, for example by adding usage statistics to the app, we will update this page first, change the date at the top and, for anything significant, tell people on the waitlist or with an account.
